"Battle: Los Angeles" has a very broad "what would happen if?" - in this case, a massive alien invasion - and then meets with that premise for taking it seriously. No auto-seriously. The movie is great fun, but stays true to the terms set, telling the story through the eyes of a marine platoon assigned to rescue civilians in Santa Monica.
In this way, see the aliens only children can see - in the first place, in short just flashes and then more later in intimate and grotesque detail. We learned acclimated to the battle. And all the time we feel the anguish of knowing that we are receiving only a piece of history, carried out other battles, on the coast East, in Paris, London, Japan, and that victory seems almost inconceivable.
